Frequently Asked Questions

Artists

Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or schedule a call—Nina will walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.

  • Not every space is right for every artist. The strongest results come when your work is placed in front of the right audience. We begin with a conversation about your practice, your work, and your goals to ensure the best possible fit.

ON Spaces for Artists is a voluntary, artist-led initiative run independently by Nina. While every effort is made to find suitable opportunities, placements cannot be guaranteed. Ultimately, the final decision rests with the space, based on what best aligns with their environment and audience.

  • Nina is building a curated roster of artists—some have exhibited previously, responded to past Calls for Art, or have been approached directly.

Selections are always made in response to each space, its audience, and how your work contributes to the overall collection.

  • Most opportunities are offered through a “Call for Art” shared on Instagram.

Interested artists can request a Space Pack, which includes full details about the opportunity and a link to the submission page.

Once submitted, applications are reviewed and may be accepted, declined, or placed on a waitlist.

A small number of artists are always waitlisted for each Call for Art and may be contacted as contingency should a space become available.

  • There are no fees and no commission. ON Spaces for Artists is set up to benefit artists directly.

  • Sometimes.

Some spaces offer an honorarium to display your work. Most do not.

Each Space Pack clearly outlines what’s offered, so you can decide if the opportunity is right for you.

  • Sales go directly through you—not the space. Nina works with spaces to ensure that no commission is taken on sales. Please always review the specific Call for Art and agreement for full details.

Exhibition terms vary: some spaces require work to remain for the full duration (similar to a gallery), while others offer flexibility if a piece sells.

Each space is supportive and part of your broader artist journey.

Every Call for Art is different—review all details carefully, connect with Nina to align expectations, and sign an agreement to participate.

  • IIt depends on the space.

Some require artists to install their own work, while others offer support—details are always outlined in the Space Pack.

Nina works with space owners and recommends that all hardware is handled by the space, while artwork is handled by the artist or their representative.

In larger venues, facilities teams may take responsibility for installation. Every opportunity is different, so please review the Space Pack carefully.

  • Work should be ready to hang and professionally finished. The Space Pack will outline how to prepare your artwork for installation, including any specific requirements such as framing, size, or medium.

  • Each opportunity is different. Timelines are clearly outlined in the Space Pack, so you know exactly what you’re committing to.

  • Insurance varies by space. Some venues provide coverage, others don’t. Please review the details in each Call for Art.

  • Yes—you’re encouraged to apply to any opportunity that feels like a strong fit for your work. But understanding who you are as an artist, and who your audience is, is key to making sales. If the space isn’t right for you, it’s best not to apply.

  • Yes. Artists set their own prices, though guidance may be offered depending on the space and audience.

  • Yes—opportunities are typically supported through collaborative social media campaigns between ON Spaces for Artists and the space, and sometimes by the venue itself. We also ask artists to actively participate in promoting both their work and the space.

The level of promotion can vary depending on the space.

  • If you’re selected, Nina will call you to walk through all details, including the agreement. If it doesn’t feel right, we don’t proceed—simple as that.

Nothing is hidden. Nina works transparently throughout, and ultimately the relationship is between the space and the artist.

  • Artists are the reason this exists.

Spaces

Schedule a site visit at your space with Nina. Together we will develop a Call for Art that is right for you and your space.

  • ON Spaces for Artists connects businesses with local artists to bring original artwork into everyday spaces. Nina will manage the entire process—from sourcing and curation to artist coordination—making it simple and seamless for you.

  • Nina works with corporate offices, retail environments, wellness spaces, and hospitality venues—anywhere with good visibility and footfall where artwork can be experienced and enjoyed.

  • We start with a conversation about your space, your audience, and the kind of atmosphere you want to create.

Nina will then curate a selection of artists or prepare a marketing campaign to attract artists called ‘Call for Art’.

Nina will manage the process end-to-end and involve spaces as much or as little as they wish.

  • No.

All sales are handled directly between the artist and the buyer.

This keeps the process transparent and ensures artists benefit fully from their work.

The benefit to the space is the curation of artwork displayed at no cost to the organization. This is why Nina does not charge any fee.

Together, On Spaces for Art and our spaces are giving 100 percent support to our local artists.

  • That’s completely fine and not unusual.

The primary goal is to enhance your space and create a meaningful experience for visitors.

Some spaces owned by larger corporations choose to pay an exhibition fee to artists called a CARFAC fee, others don’t—this is agreed during our exploration call and subsequent work order.

  • Artists are curated based on your space, your brand, and your audience.
I ensure the work aligns with your environment while offering a strong and diverse selection of local artists.

  • This depends on your preference. Some spaces rotate work every few months, while others keep pieces longer.

We’ll agree on a schedule that suits your space and level of engagement.

  • Installation is coordinated as part of the process.

The space provides all wall fixtures (screws, nails, hardware), and Nina works with the owner or facilities team to install the artwork. In smaller spaces, artists may hang their own work using the provided hardware.

Artists are not permitted to drill, hammer, or attach hardware that could damage the space.

Space owners are required to sign a waiver accepting responsibility for any damage caused.

It’s these small things that Nina helps with. The small things that are often overlooked when exciting projects are taking place.

  • Insurance responsibilities vary depending on the space.
We’ll clarify expectations upfront so you’re comfortable with the arrangement.

  • As involved as you’d like to be.
Some clients prefer to be hands-on with selection, while others are happy for me to manage everything. The goal is to make this easy for you.

  • Original artwork enhances your environment, creates a more engaging experience for visitors, and supports local artists.
It can also encourage dwell time, conversation, and connection within your space.

  • Each project is tailored. You’ll receive a curated selection that fits your space—considering scale, style, audience, and overall aesthetic.

  • You can purchase directly from the artist at any time.

I can facilitate introductions, but all transactions remain between you and the artist.

I take no fee, charge no fees or commission to the artist or the space. That’s why we insist our spaces do not charge commission.

  • Nina makes the process simple, thoughtful, and artist-first—while ensuring your space looks exceptional.

Through a curated roster and a growing Instagram reach across the city and province, Nina connects spaces with a wide range of artists and opportunities.

Spaces often underestimate the reach of their own audience. We frequently uncover talented local artists within their own community who are actively building their practice.
